Summer Home Tour - DOTS Style!!!

Helllloooo! Thanks for visiting Designing On The Side, better known as DOTS! If you are joining us after visiting designPost interiors, welcome! I was thrilled to be invited to participate in this Summer Home Tour, which was organized by Marty at A Stroll Thru Life. Safe to say I am in some pretty sweet company this week. Read to the bottom of this post to see the list of all 29 other bloggers who are participating. After DOTS, the next stop on the tour is Peaceful Home Decor so be sure to check them out when you are done perusing.

Two years ago we completely gutted our 1940s colonial and added on more than 1500 square feet. The kitchen is where we spent the most time, money and effort when we remodeled and there isn't anything I don't love about this space. It's bright and sunny and clean and white without being cold. The backsplash is a moroccan tile - in grey behind the range and in white everywhere else. After countless hours considering different countertop options, we went with a white granite that has some grey veining and redish flecks. It mimics marble but without all the hassle of having to worry about a wayward lemon leaving behind an etch-a-sketch on the island!

One day this winter, I got crafty and made this fun little herb garden out of an organizer set I found at Target. It is hanging on the wall in the kitchen and it's fun and easy to make. But it's a little harder to keep alive...especially when you install it over a heating/AC vent. If anyone has any ideas on how to keep them from dying (other than moving them) lemme know!!!

Looking out from the kitchen is our great room. This space is constantly evolving and is in it's summery stage right now. Bright colors, lots of different patterns and textures and my crazy ottoman which I made from an old coffee table (learn more about that here). After what seemed like 38 months of winter, I went through the space and  added some fun things like the coral on top of the books (one of which is a signed copy of Sarah Richardson's new book and I am completely and totally obsessed with her design).  I am convinced we would be best friends if we met. Just sayin...

In my earlier days of decor and designing rooms, I was obsessed with red and you can see that I still have pops of it throughout the house. But as I grow up and my tastes change, I have slowly been shifting away from it. I haven't gotten rid of my lovely little red chair from Crate and Barrel though. Here is a close up.

On the other side of the house is our living room. This space presented some challenges as it is a bit of an odd shape and having my mothers GORGEOUS piano in there left not so much room for furniture. I shamelessly copied the board and batten wall idea (right down to the paint color)  from our friend Sarah at Life On Virginia Street).  The room right now is decked out in summery yellow colors and my awesome new Lilly Pulitzer for Target porcelain tray (and luckily no real bodily damage was done to me during that sale..phew!)

Next stop on the tour is our Master Bedroom which is 99% complete at this point - just one more major dresser purchase and we are there. I love how it's turned out so far and lucky you...I haven't shared these pictures yet on the blog. SNEEK PEAK Y'ALL!!! Check back soon for the final product.

And last but not least for this tour is our master bathroom - which isn't particularly summery but is so great I feel like I have to post it anyway. And really, who cares which season it is when you can hide in your bathtub?

So that's it! Hope you enjoyed this little glimpse of our home. Feel free to poke around the rest of the site to see more. And when you're done, head on over to Peaceful Home Decor and check out another great house. Or click on any of the links below to see tours from earlier in the week. Enjoy!
